LAAB winner of Twenty+Change 2024

THE STRATEGIC DESIGN FIRM SELECTED AS PROMISING EMERGING FIRM IN CANADA

With LAAB, Lauzon set out to “demystify” design: making it clearer, more precise, and more participatory for clients. - Claire Lubell

LAAB is a winner in the sixth edition of Twenty + Change, in collaboration with Canadian Architect Magazine.

Twenty + Change is dedicated to promoting emerging practices that redefine the boundaries of the profession while also delivering design excellence. LAAB is honored to be recognized for its disruptive approach to the practice of architecture, interiors and urban design.

Lauzon sees LAAB’s evidence-based approach as akin to urban design, in that it aims to consider as many parameters and competing interests as possible. Key to this is quantitative analysis. By using UX modelling, the studio begins by producing and working with data, which Lauzon says makes it easier for their clients to engage in the strategic design process. - Claire Lubell

The profile of the firm features four of our recent projects, each showcasing the diversity and originality of our approach: Plus Company/Cossette Campus (Montréal), Cozey Flagship Store (Toronto), Agora Maximus Tactical Urbanism installations (Montreal) and the Club Cossette Office Pop-Up (Montréal).

This national recognition confirms the relevance of LAAB's rethinking of the architectural practice, driven by our novel and radical approach to urban, architectural and interior design. - Michel Lauzon, President & founder of LAAB

Based in Montreal but with an international outlook, the creative collective leverages a Strategic Design toolkit featuring experience design (UX) and brandscaping among others. This has propelled the firm's growth since its 2020 founding during pandemic, enabling it to break into markets otherwise dominated by established practices:

The firm has blossomed since 2020, attracting a roster of A-list clients and an array of ambitious public and private commissions. (...) [ LAAB ] is less concerned with building a portfolio in specific typologies or establishing a particular aesthetic than in ensuring his practice remains focused on delivering innovative and relevant design solutions in an ever-evolving architectural landscape. - Claire Lubell

LAAB expresses gratitude to the curatorial committee, Twenty + Change, and Canadian Architect for this honor.
