Pedestrian Bridge CDN-NDG
location: Arrond. Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, Montreal, Canada
client: DevHAW

The Challenge

Create a bridge exclusively for cyclists and pedestrians that crosses the railway and connects Westbury, Namur, and Le Triangle, just steps from Namur metro station. The goal: to open up these neighborhoods, bring communities closer together, and make active and public transport the natural choice for residents. An ambitious project aimed at making mobility more inclusive and sustainable, while connecting urban spaces.

The Response

In light of the site’s constraints, particularly the urban conditions at the ramp landing areas, two bridge design options were developed.

Spiral option emphasizes strong urban integration and multipolar accessibility, linking an open, activity-driven southern approach to a structured northern landing embedded within the future east–west mobility and biodiversity corridor, through a fluid, landscape-integrated alignment.

Zigzag option proposes a sculptural architectural gesture conceived as an urban event and social condenser, combining sinuous ramps with an exposed truss span to create both a mobility infrastructure and a distinctive urban landmark.
