The Challenge

Cozey is a digital native Montreal-based furniture start-up created during the pandemic. In 2023, the disruptive retailer wanted to create a physical store, one that would embody their “unique selling proposal”, be differentiated from legacy competitors and help customers interact with their products. The location was a streetside space in Queen West, Toronto.

The Response

Cozey called upon LAAB to imagine its flagship, starting with user experience and brandscaping to fix design fundamentals. The result is a next generation store, featuring no onsite storage, no cash registers, and instore products as physical avatars. The design approach is UX and product focused, starting with a window showcase, evoking a giant fabric weave, to draw pedestrians inside. The elongated space then funnels patrons through successive “rings” towards a design centre at the end, using a shape inspired by a photographer’s cyclorama. Inspired by the start-up’s tenets of innovation and simplicity, LAAB responded to the challenge of “What is Cosy?” by crafting the whole affair, creating both a highly functional and intimate space capable of transmitting the ultimate feeling of comfort at home.
