The Challenge

Located on the Benny Farm site, the challenge was to create affordable housing for a young, urban clientele looking to settle in Montreal and raise their children there.

The Response

This residential project consists of 118 units spread across two buildings that are LEED-certified, one of the most stringent international standards for green building. Both buildings are oriented westward to maximize afternoon sunlight, thereby reducing the need for air conditioning in summer. Special attention has been given to the layout of each apartment, ensuring that living spaces, such as the kitchen and living room, benefit fully from natural light. To meet the varied needs of residents, nearly thirty different apartment configurations are available, each with unique layout features that add character.

Constructed with concrete for its acoustic properties and thermal mass, which efficiently stores heat, the buildings will be heated and cooled through a geothermal system, providing sustainable and eco-friendly thermal comfort.
